ePSXe is a super enhanced PlayStation emulator for x86 computers. It runs on Windows and Linux, but its support has been extended to Android too due to the power of the platform. The emulator is closed source, yet there is an exception for its plugins. Originally released in 2000, the latest version has come out in 2016. Just like other new fashioned emulators, ePSXe relies on plugins to ensure a proper CD-ROM drive functionality and sound. Games will be downloaded over the CD drive or from images stored on the hard drive.
The emulator has a feature that lets people apply patches. From this point of view, games with running difficulties can be fixed using patches with the PPF extension. Not all games have such patches though. While ePSXe does not come with any PlayStation BIOS images, users are supposed to provide them. After all, they are copyrighted and the emulator cannot bundle them.
