There are more versions of Handy out there. The last one is Handy 0.9 and it was released in 2004, meaning the project has been abandoned, but it is still used by retro gaming enthusiasts. Handy gained notoriety for a simple aspect – it was the only Atari Lynx emulator created for macOS. Those who loved trivia were impressed to see Handy as the first emulator made for Macintosh to provide access to compressed ROM images. From this point of view, Handy was a pioneer – later on, pretty much every emulator out there implemented the idea.
It is worth noting that Handy only runs with the original Atari Lynx BIOS – or a copy. Since the respective software is copyrighted, it cannot be included into the emulator. The support for screen rotation – ideal for Gauntlet Third Encounter – is one of the most attractive features of Handy. Plus, it can be used with various addons – such as Emulator Enhancer – for even more support.
