Snes9x is a Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) emulator. It is available for free and allows users to bring back the nostalgia associated with SNES and Super Famicom Nintendo games on personal computers or workstations. The best part about it? This emulator allows access to a few interesting games that have only been released in Japan – those who do not live in Japan will love to discover a plethora of titles they had no clue about. Written in C++ and first released in 1998, the emulator has been through constant updates throughout the year. It is a cross platform software, meaning it can easily run on multiple operating systems.
The source code for this emulator is publicly available. It comes for free, yet commercial uses are prohibited. It is worth noting that players cannot find any ROM images in the package either – such materials are copyrighted and must be found separately.
